KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) is poised to play a pivotal role in Sarawak’s digital transformation and green energy initiatives, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
He said the state government had taken strategic steps to develop the digital economy.
“We see the potential of the digital economy as a catalyst for creating more job opportunities in the technology and creative sectors,” he said in his speech during the Second Session of UNIMAS’s 28th Convocation Ceremony today (Nov 5).
He further stressed the importance of educational autonomy in driving Sarawak’s educational landscape.
“With full autonomy in education, we can develop programmes that are more relevant to local needs, produce first-class human capital, and strengthen the achievements of our students at all levels.”
Turning to green energy, Uggah expressed optimism about Sarawak’s potential as a green energy hub.
“With UNIMAS’s support in green energy research, we are optimistic about achieving our vision of making Sarawak the main provider of clean hydrogen in Malaysia, while also helping our country achieve environmental sustainability.”
He also urged graduates to be socially and environmentally conscious.
“It is crucial for us to produce graduates who not only have the ability to develop and apply new technology but are also sensitive to social and environmental needs in every decision they make.”
A total of 552 graduates from the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development and the Faculty of Built Environment received their Bachelor’s Degree Awards during the two-day session.
On the afternoon of the second day, 521 graduates from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities were conferred their degrees.
