SRI AMAN: A police patrol car fell into a ditch after the driver attempted to avoid a car that was dangerously overtaking along KM5, Jalan Sri Aman today.

Acting Sri Aman police chief DSP Zuriawati Zainal Abidin in a statement, said the accident happened at around 10 am in front of Sentosa Indah Housing Park.

The crash involved a Proton X70 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) belonging to Lubok Antu district police headquarters (IPD) and a hatchback Peugeot vehicle.

The Peugeot car crashes at the roadside after it dangerously overtakes a car in front and knocks the rear right side of a police patrol car.

“Preliminary investigations found that the crash occurred when the Peugeot driver heading to Kuching from Sri Aman town, was in the process of overtaking a vehicle in front and entered the opposite lane.

“The car then knocked the rear right side of the police patrol car that was travelling in the opposite direction,” she said.

However, no injuries were reported among both drivers.

Zuriawati added that the Peugeot driver has already come forward to Sri Aman traffic police station to file a complaint and for further investigation.

The case is being classified under Rule 6 (1) of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for overtaking dangerously.

She advised other road users to be cautious when driving for the sake of mutual safety.
