KUCHING: The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Malaysia General Tan Sri Affendi Buang said that there have been a series of attempts to infiltrate the country by elements from Sulu through Sabah.
However, he said these attempts were successfully thwarted and so far there had been no reported incidents involving such an invasion.
“This kind of thing is always monitored and observed by the country’s special intelligence unit to determine whether it really happened and if there is, we will deploy our armed forces.
“We have our own mechanism to determine that there are no elements that should not happen such as infiltration.
“I don’t want to say it’s peaceful. There were attempts (Sulu invasion) but that has all been defeated,” he said in an exclusive interview with Suara Sarawak and New Sarawak Tribune at Camp Penrissen, today.
He said so far, the Sulu issue to claim a small portion of Sabah has been resolved through legal channels at the international stage.
He stressed that the national defence preparedness in Sabah so far was under control.
“From the beginning, we did increase (armed forces) and intelligence unit there, imposing curfew at night.
“This is to identify the activities of the local people, either disguised as fishermen or just to visit,” he said.
