KUCHING: Attractive prizes are up for grabs at this year’s fishing competition to be held in conjunction with the 5th Semadang International Tagang Festival on August 31.

The competition is open to local and foreign participants. It will be held along the Sarawak Kiri River or locally known as Semadang River at Kampung Semadang, 40 kilometres from here.

Coordinator of the competition Krisnam Louis Sebod said the participants are eligible to compete in all categories of the competition.

The categories are the fastest catch (all species of fish and shrimps), largest catch (the most number of fish caught) and the heaviest total of fish caught (based on fish weight).

Krisnam said the winner in the fastest and the largest catch category will bag RM100 cash prize respectively.

The heaviest catch category will offer cash prizes to the top 10 winners with the champion, first runner-up and second runner-up walking home with RM600, RM300, and RM200, respectively, besides trophies and supplementary prizes. The fourth to 10th place winners will receive RM50 each.

“The use of the triple hook is not allowed at all, while there is no restriction on the bait,” he added.

He said fish caught must be alive and to be handed over to the judges’ table for weighing.
