KUCHING: An arts competition themed ‘Our River, Our Life’ which offers attractive prizes to winners received good response from schools in the city.
The prize giving ceremony for the competition will be held at the Kuching Waterfront on July 22 at 4pm.
The competition is divided into three categories — painting, sculpture and poetry. It is organised through a collaboration of the Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE), OKSHE, SMA and UCSI.
The champion of each category will receive RM500 cash, UCSI bursary worth RM10,000, and certificate while the first runner-up will take home RM300 cash, UCSI bursary worth RM8,000 and certificate. The second runner-up will receive cash prize of RM200, UCSI bursary worth RM5,000 and certificate.
There will be five consolation prizes of RM100 cash each, plus UCSI bursary worth RM3,000 and certificates. A special token will also be given to the arts teachers of the winning schools.
All the finalists will have the opportunity to showcase their artwork in an exhibition.
The organiser in a statement yesterday said the objectives of the competition aligns perfectly with the objectives of RCE Kuching, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) as well as that of Kuching SMART city.
It aims to improve awareness of communities on the importance of rivers and river sustainability.
“The activity focuses on creating and conserving awareness in and around the main water source for Kuching,” added the statement.
The competition is open to the public (for Kuching residents only) and all artworks are to be submitted to the organiser by July 12.
