The annual competition was launched by HELP University with the objective of upgrading the level of command in English among secondary school students from non-English medium schools particularly those from CISS Malaysia.
Last year the university could not hold the competition due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, it decided to hold the debate virtually this year. The name of the competition has also changed to the HELP University Secondary School Online English Debate Challenge.
