PERTH: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan recently led a Sarawak delegation in a meeting with Element 25 Pte Ltd.

In the two-hour meeting, the delegation was briefed on Element 25’s proposal to invest between AUD300mil and AUD400mil to produce high purity manganese sulphate (HPMSM) as EV fuel for lithium-ion batteries.

“Sarawak welcomes these type of manufacturing activities as they are in line with our Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 that aims to achieve a high-income economy,” said Awang Tengah.

“As the world move towards decarbonisation, the adoption of more environmentally friendly technologies, including lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles are gaining popularity.”

He added that with the ongoing US-China trade war and Russia-Ukraine conflict, the strategic location of Sarawak would become more prominent.

Among those present were Deputy Minister for International Trade and Investment Datuk Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Element 25 managing director Justin Brown, Sarawak Economic Planning Unit director Datu Abdullah Zaidel, Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak acting permanent secretary Dzulkornain Masron, ministry advisor Datuk Naroden Majais and ministry special officer Datu Liaw Soon Eng.
