LUNDU: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for the remains of Sebarang Bingkok, who was attacked by a crocodile at Kampung Kangka on Thursday (May 19), has been called off.
A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the SAR op was halted at 3.30pm on the fourth day of the operation (May 22).
“The decision was made following discussions with the police and it will be reactivated once there is a new lead.”
On the fourth day of the search, a total of 54 people, including from Lundu Bomba, police, Civil Defence Force and villagers, scoured the river to look for clues to the whereabouts of the 56-year-old victim’s body.
However, the search came up empty and was called off in the afternoon.
On the day of the incident, Sebarang was reported missing in Sungai Kampung Kangka and believed to be a victim of a crocodile attack while bathing.
Lundu OCPD DSP Damatarius Lautin said this was following the discovery the victim’s head, found floating in the river by a member of the victim’s family.
The victim’s family lodged a police report and the head was taken to Lundu Hospital for further action.
A SAR op was then activated on the same day.
