A boat heading out to look for the missing man.

BAKUN: Authorities have launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation for a man, who is believed to have fallen into a river.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the matter was handed over to Belaga Bomba by the Belaga District police on Tuesday (June 21) at 3.15pm.

According to the police, the missing man, identified as Heli Nyalong, 36, could have fallen into a river at Ulu Naha Nyabong.

Belaga Bomba commenced the SAR operation — which also involved several agencies — at 8.30am today.

The man’s last known location, Bakun jetty, is around four hours and authorities had to use boats to conduct the operation.

The location of the incident does not have any network coverage.
