KAPIT: Forty-one individuals, who were camping at Ulu Sungai Yong, were rescued by authorities after being stranded due to a flash flood last night (Feb 11).

The Civil Defence Force (APM) Kapit said it received a request for assistance from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) around 8.49 pm to rescue the stranded victims.

The group comprised of teenagers and their families were camping in the area prior to the incident.

A sudden heavy rainfall led to the flash flood and caused the victims to be stranded on the opposite side of the river.

The APM team accompanied by the police and Bomba developed a rescue plan.

Rescuers promptly used a rope and resorted to the river-crossing technique to safely guide the victims across the river.

The rescue operation ended at 9.53 pm after all the individuals were guided to safety.
