KUCHING: The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) confiscated several body parts of protected wildlife in Ulu Sungai Melatai, Baleh, estimated to be worth around RM54,000.
“The parts included hornbill feathers and pangolin scales. Money was also seized,” SFC said on social media on Monday.
Nine foreigners were arrested and taken to the Kapit police station while the confiscated items were taken to the Sibu SFC office for further action.
The case is being investigated under the Wildlife Protection Ordinance 1998 (Chapter 26).
“The operation was joined by marine police personnel, and its success was the result of public tip-offs and months of surveillance.
“Thank you to the marine police, and the public for their cooperation and support,” said SFC chief executive officer Zolkipli Mohamad Aton.
