MIRI: The Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 here has seized untaxed cigarettes and liquor valued at RM142,506.25 yesterday (Mar 30) during Ops Taring Kontraban.
The contrabands were confiscated after the police stopped a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle at Jalan Limbang Utara in Taman Tunku, and discovered a cache of contraband items hidden inside.
The man driving the vehicle was immediately taken into custody for further questioning, said Miri police OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu in a statement today.
“During inspection, the suspect failed to produce valid documentation for the items,” Alexson said.
The case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967.
