KUCHING: Nine volunteers were accredited Airport Fire and Rescue Service (AFRS) auxillary fire officers at a ceremony here on Wednesday.
Malvyn Kaweh Mereten, 19, from Kampung Gaya Baru, Lawas, expressed his happiness at being accredited as one of the auxillary fire officers.
“I hope I will be able to assist the people who are in need of help, especially those who are in an accident, conflicts or in need of medical assistance.
“Thanks to this training, I was able to learn the skills needed for me to apply when there is a need to assist and help people,” he told New Sarawak Tribune recently.
He also shared that being a firefighter has always been his dream ever since his participation as a cadet in secondary school.
Another volunteer, Mohammad Nur Faiz Montel, 20, from Kampung Banting, said his inspiration came from his parents and it had always been his dream to help the community as a firefighter.
“I am extremely proud to be picked as a auxillary fire officer as it is the first step for me to achieve my dream to become a firefighter,” he added.
