KUCHING: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) mayor Hilmy Othman has advised the public against feeding pigeons with food considered harmful to their wellbeing to prevent potential unwanted incidents.
This advice comes in the wake of an unfortunate event on Aug 2, where 41 pigeons died, likely due to poisoning.
“What we can do now is to refrain from feeding any type of food to the pigeons in the future.
“Food that is good for us may not be good for the pigeons, so we have to be careful,” he told the media this after officiating the World Toilet Day seminar at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on Tuesday (Dec 5).
Hilmy assured that DBKU would take measures to ensure the cleanliness of the Waterfront Kuching area, continuing inspections to maintain a clean and safe environment.
The incident involving the 41 pigeons raised concerns about their wellbeing, and Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak director Dr Adrian Susin Ambud, at the time, ruled out avian influenza or bird flu as the cause of death.
