PAKAN: Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom hopes the residents of the longhouses, especially the longhouse chiefs (tuai rumah), will not be swayed by any political speculations that could disunite the people as the next state election will be held soon.
“The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)-led government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, has truly prioritised the welfare of the people.
“We are confident that Pakan will receive more development if we continue supporting the government under the leadership of GPS,” he said at the minor rural project (MRP) grants presentation at the Pakan District Office here on Tuesday (June 16).
At the same time, Mawan commended the Pakan residents for complying with all the standard operating procedures (SOPs) throughout the implementation of movement control order (MCO), conditional movement control order (CMCO) and recovery movement control order (RMCO).
He hoped that the attitude would continue until the spread of Covid-19 was successfully eliminated in the state.
On another note, the Pakan assemblyman also called on the village security and development committees (JKKKs) to set up a longhouse economic coordination committee that works to close the economic gap between the locals.
“In addition, the Women’s Bureau should also be set up in a longhouse to ease the JKKK’s role in the longhouse administration.
“I believe that women can help in managing the longhouse administration very well if given the opportunity.
“I would also like to remind the community leader (ketua kaum) to involve the JKKK in any community programme with the aim to promote closer rapport among community members,” he said.
At the event, a total of RM800,000 in grants were given to 45 recipients including the JKKKs and Women’s Bureaus as well as 13 parent-teacher associations (PTAs) in Pakan constituency.
