KUCHING: Sarawakian-born Awang Din Awang Gani has returned to the Land of Hornbills as the new Sarawak Management Department chief.
The 58-year-old from Kampung Gersik, also assumed the rank of Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC).
Awang Din had, previously, served as the 30th Kuching police chief with the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) for two years from 2019 to 2021.
He was later transferred to the Johor Police Contingent headquarters as the deputy chief of Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (Strategic Planning).
After two years, he has returned to Sarawak to take over duties from ACP James Jonathan, who is the acting chief for the Management Department.
The handing over of duties was witnessed by Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess at the Sarawak Police Contingent headquarters (IPK) today.
In his brief speech, Mohd Azman congratulated Awang Din on his new position and hoped that
he will be able to carry out his duties well.
He also hoped all personnel in the contingent will give the same support and cooperation to Awang Din.
“To compare with other police contingents, Sarawak is the biggest police contingent with 28 districts and 10 departments.
“As the new Management Department chief Awang Din has to coordinate and monitor all the activities and letters from the government departments, agencies and the public.
“This will indeed be a challenging job for him,” Azman said.
Meanwhile, in his speech, Awang Din said he is happy to serve in Sarawak again and he will be ready to assist Azman and the force to ensure management and administration tasks are well managed.
He also hoped for the support and close cooperation of all personnel to execute the programmes and activities.
