HANOI (VIETNAM): Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan who is Second Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources as well as Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development led a 36-member delegation on a four-day visit to Vietnam on August 1, said a press release yesterday.

The visit aims to share information and explore the possibility of collaboration in areas of common interest as well as to lure investors.

On the first day of the visit Tengah and the delegation visited the Vietnam Academy of Forest Science (VAFS), a research institution in Vietnam that conducts scientific research and develops technology in support of sustainable forest management and forest related industries. The delegation was briefed on the R & D works on acacia breeding and improvement and civil culture methodology for acacia plantation. 

Speaking to the Vietnam counterparts, Tengah said there was a need to establish collaboration with Vietnam on acacia plantation that will help to spur the development and the implementation of forest plantation in Sarawak. This is to support the State Government’s target of establishing 1 million hectares of forest plantation by 2025.

The Deputy Chief Minister who is Chairman of STIDC Board of Management also witnessed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing Between Sarawak Forestry Corporation Sdn. Bhd. and Vietnam Academy of Forest Science (VAFS) regarding R&D on acacia plantation.

The four-day visit also includes visit to Tan Phat Animal Feed in Hanoi as well as Becamex IDC Corporation, Wilsons Hill furniture factory and Sudima Panels Co. Ltd.

The delegation comprised Datuk Haji Mohd Naroden Haji Majais,the Assistant Minister of E-Commerce and Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur and Small, Medium Enterprise (SME) Development;  Datu Haji Len Talif Salleh, the Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment; Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, the Assistant Minister of Industries and Investment; Dr. Abdul Rahman Ismail Assistant Minister for Agriculture; Dr. Wan Lizozman bin Wan Omar, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Urban Development and Natural Resources; Datu Liaw Soon Eng, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development  and Haji Hashim Haji Bojet, STIDC Acting General Manager as well as industry players.
