KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan led a Sarawak delegation to the renowned Butchart Garden in Brentwood Bay, British Columbia, Canada, yesterday (June 11).

According to Awang Tengah, this award-winning garden, a prime example of a private initiative in transforming a former quarry site, was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 2004.

“Butchart Garden has become a major tourist attraction in British Columbia, creating numerous business and job opportunities for the local community.

“It serves as a benchmark for the redevelopment and rehabilitation of former quarry sites, offering valuable insights that could be integrated into Sarawak’s planning approval policies,” he said.

Accompanying the Deputy Premier were Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development Sarawak, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63, and State-Federal Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Syed Aman Ghazali, along with other senior government officials.
