KUCHING: A total of 330 students and 37 teachers from 12 schools took part in a treasure hunt activity which was part of the ‘Night at the Museum’ programme held on July 26-27.
Organised by Sarawak Museum Department, the hunt was flagged off by the department’s acting director Suria Bujang at 9am on Friday.
“The objective of the hunt is to provide information and raise awareness to the younger generation about our cultural heritage.
“Through this programme, we will be able to nurture their interest and appreciation towards the state’s historical events and artefacts,” he told New Sarawak Tribune after the flag off at Islamic Heritage Museum here, yesterday.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Museum Department assistant curator Mohamad Noor Omar stated that every participating school had sent 30 students followed by three or four chaperone teachers respectively.
“The students are required to explore on foot to four checkpoints, namely Textile Museum, Chinese History Museum, Natural History Museum and Islamic Heritage Museum,” he said.
The participating schools were SK RPR Jalan Astana, SK Rakyat Tupong, SK Siol Kanan, SK Bandar Semariang, SK Gersik, SK Gita, SK Pulo, SK Astana, SK Semerah Padi, SK St Teresa, SK St Thomas and SK St Joseph.
Apart from that, the hunt also concurrently organised an open category for the treasure hunt which saw participation from Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC), Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHe) and SK St Teresa teachers.
