MIRI: Drug awareness is crucial as it empowers people to make informed choices.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew believed that it is essential for the community to embrace adequate knowledge about drugs in order to tackle the problem (drug abuse) at root.
“We need to create a caring community in order to strengthen our environment and provide positive opportunity to our young people,” he said at the closing of a dialogue session on community empowerment and prevention of drug abuse held at a leading hotel here on Monday (Aug 23).
On the session, Ting hoped that it could raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
A total of 50 people participated in the programme. Also among the participants were local community leaders, non-governmental organisations, the National Anti-Drug Agency Miri branch, the Malaysian Drug Prevention Association Sarawak branch and Miri Residents Committee.
