KUCHING: The Azam Young Souls (AYS) committee exco has convened for their first face-to-face meet-up, themed ‘Cruising and Musing with AZAM Young Souls’ aboard the Sarawak River cruise.
AYS Committee chairman Fadzim Aiman expressed his excitement at finally meeting his committee members face-to-face.
“I’m so glad to finally see the other committee members, instead of through a screen,” he expressed.
As the new year unfolds, he said AYS is gearing up for more events and increased community outreach in the upcoming year.
With volunteerism as one of the core values upheld as an AYS committee member, he remarked that there will be more events to come this year, supporting the state’s sustainable development goals (SDG) through community service with non-governmental organisations (NGO), cleaning beaches and aiding the B40 group, among others.
“We will be having our meeting to discuss the activities we plan to have, but we have our main activities on community service, as we focus on volunteerism,” he emphasised.
Anticipating the involvement of more youths and the younger generation, Fadzim expressed his expectation for increased participation in activities aimed at engaging and assisting the community.
“I expect to do more activities where youths and the younger generation can capture the spirit of engaging and helping the community,” he said.
Established in 2012, AYS aims to mould today’s youth into future leaders by providing guidance and opportunities to understand the workings of the corporate world.
With that said, he encouraged the public ranging from 15 to 35 years old to come and join AYS, stressing the potential for personal growth, skill development, and future leadership roles.
“To all the youths and young people out there, if you want to gain more knowledge, skills, leadership, etc. that will not only benefit you personally but when you enter into the working world, come and join us—you will not be disappointed,” he encouraged.
Additionally, the recent meet-up aims to strengthen interactions and networking among the AZAM youth development committee, youth volunteers, and staff.
Chairman of the AZAM Youth Development Committee 2022-2024, Arif Irwani Azahari, highlighted the ethnic diversity within the committee as a catalyst for exchanging views and expertise, resulting in high-quality programmes that promote harmony in Sarawak.
Since its inception through the Young Souls & the City and Gegaran Beli extensive youth programme organised by AZAM Sarawak, AYS currently houses 90 members.
