KUCHING: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has announced that all incoming and outgoing flights to and from Sarawak will be back to usual operations effective September 1.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said flights into Sarawak had been reduced earlier to control entries and taking into consideration the state’s quarantine capacity.

“The number of flights will be increased,” he said at the SDMC Covid-19 update press conference on Friday (August 28), adding that this was in accordance with the relaxation in entry conditions.

He also announced that the Ministry of Local Government and Housing had presented the standard operating procedure (SOP) guidelines for children’s entertainment centres located in shopping malls or with closed concept, which will be allowed to operate starting September 1.

When asked about Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s announcement scheduled for 8pm on Friday (August 28) regarding the recovery movement control order (RMCO), he said they were all waiting to see what would be announced.

However, he said he had presented to the State Cabinet on Thursday, and they had agreed with the proposal that from time to time, Sarawak would have to adjust its own rules and SOP to suit the situation herein.

“On what would be announced by the Prime Minister tonight, we will see whether we have to modify or what action we have to take as a result of that announcement,” said Uggah, who is also SDMC chairman.
