SIBU: Sarawak’s only hope in the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) men’s singles badminton, Goh Shun Huat, progressed to the quarterfinals after a hard-fought victory over Sabah’s Muhammad Nur Azhar Zunaide.

Goh secured a 2-1 win in a challenging match.

Despite losing the first set 20-22, Goh recovered in the second set, dominating with a 21-12 win and a 9-point lead.

The match extended to a decisive final set, where Goh convincingly ended Muhammad Nur Azhar’s hopes of advancing, winning 21-5 with a commanding 16-point margin.

Tomorrow (Aug 23) Goh will face Penang’s Ong Zhen Yi in the quarterfinals.

Previously, Goh struggled against Ong in the Mixed Group category, where Ong, ranked 2nd in SUKMA XXI badminton, defeated the latter 2-1.
