KUCHING: The reality programme Bakat Kamek 2019 has successfully closed its curtains as its Bakat Kamek 2019 Final Concert comes to an end, last Friday night.

Gracing the event was Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Taking place at the old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building in Petra Jaya here, the concert witnessed 20 finalists competing to become the champion for Bakat Kamek 2019 in two categories — Singing and Stand-Up Comedy.

Lidya performs two songs Kamu dan Kenangan and Jangan Kau Mimpi at the Bakat Kamek 2019 Final Concert.

For the singing category, 24-year old Lydia Shafrina Suhaili from Kampung No.6 emerged champion followed by Mohd Fizal Setu, 33, from Bintawa and Nurul’Ain Abdullah Bolhassan, 18, from Kpg Kudei Baru in second and third places, respectively.

Meanwhile, duo Perey comprised of Mazlan Rosni (33) from Kpg Sinjan and Ashwandy Mohamad Zeidil (37) from Tabuan Hilir emerged winner for the Stand-Up Comedy category. Securing second place was Pakwe Rangers comprised of Mohamad Norazizul Baili (35) from Kpg Segedup Batu Kawa and Khairul Azhar Sirat (34) from Desa Wira Batu Kawa while NYO2 represented by Shrulamyra Mohamad from Kpg Tanjung Bundong (28) and Abdul Hafiz Rasit from Kpg Bintawa (27) finished in third.

First place winners went home with RM3,000 cash prize while second and third places were awarded with RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively.

Every winner also received a trophy, scholarship sponsorship worth RM50,000 each, a bouquet of flower with perfume and complimentary stays at Merdeka Palace Hotel.

The same event also featured two awards — Best Vocal Award which was won by Mohamad Aqmal Redza Abdul Gani from Kampung Sawmill Sebuyau (24) and Best Performance Award by Perey. Both winners bagged a Huawei mobile phone and a bouquet of flower with perfume, respectively.

A crowd of about 1,000 attended the Bakat Kamek 2019 Final Concert which was organised by Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) in collaboration with Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHe), Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) and industry player Oohhaa Music Sdn Bhd.

Concurrently held with the event was a Heritage Bike/Food Truck Market where 15 entrepreneurs opened up stalls outside the building.

The Bakat Kamek is a youth talent development programme which goes by the reality show concept and being the first in Sarawak to do so, it has grabbed the attention of up to 50,000 people through its engagement in social media.

The first season has just begun this year in Sarawak and can be viewed on TV Sarawak. It aims to help pave the way for new local talents, mainly involving the youth of Sarawak.

Since August last year, Bakat Kamek has conducted 380 auditions and selected 46 contestants who were then enrolled into the Bakat Kamek talent development programme where they were trained on the creative content and entertainment industry syllabus by professional trainers.

A total of 30 contestants were shortlisted during the preliminary concert on Sept 27 to 29 and in the semi-final concert held on Oct 30, 20 finalists were chosen for the Bakat Kamek 2019 final concert.

Also present were Deputy State Secretary (Performance and Service Delivery Transformation) cum SMA board member Datuk Dr Sabariah Putit; SMA project head Prof Ir Dr Al-Khalid Othman; Oohhaa Music Sdn Bhd director cum OKSHe Bakat Kamek Dean, Mohamad Shah Riadzi Jamali or known as singer Ir Radzi; UKAS acting director Datuk Norhyati Ismail as well as Association of Malay Importers and Traders of Motor Vehicles Malaysia (Pekema) Sarawak chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Abang Khalid Marzuki.
