KUCHING: The Bakat Kamek 2019 grand final concert ― Sarawak’s own first reality talent show, will be held on Dec 20 at Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) old building here.

The concert will feature 21 finalists.

Bakat Kamek is a youth talent development programme under Sarawak government in partnership with Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHe), Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) and Unit Komunikasi Awam Sarawak (Ukas) in tandem with Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2018-2020.

Alongside TV Sarawak as the broadcast platform, the show managed to grab the attention of 50,000 viewers via engagement from social media as well.

Prof Dr Al-Khalid Othman, the deputy chairman of Bakat Kamek 2019, said, “The main concept of Bakat Kamek 2019 reality talent show is to set up local talents databases specifically within Sarawak creative industry.

“This talent show also focuses on the creative content industry in Sarawak as well as to provide an eco-system for the industry.”

Dr Al-Khalid, who is also the chief advisor for Digital Economy Sarawak hoped that the reality talent show would not only boost the entertainment industry in Sarawak but also enhances the contestants’ career in the industry.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will officiate at the concert which expects to attract some 1,000 people. Admission is free. The free tickets can be collected at Level 1, Creative Heritage Innovation Centre, Jalan Masjid, Bangunan Yayasan Sarawak here starting from Dec 2.
