MIRI: Ba’kelalan constituents are told to rally their support towards Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and its components parties to ensure continuous development for the people, especially in rural areas.
Former Ba’kelalan assemblyman Datuk Nelson Balang Rining said the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has been prioritising the people’s needs in their development agenda.
“Only local parties know the people here better than those political parties outside Sarawak,” said.
Balang, who is also Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) deputy-president added, that only GPS and its coalition parties would be able to fight for Sarawak’s rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“GPS is the only solid foundation for us (Sarawakians) to champion our rights and fight for our autonomy,” he said.
He added that young voters and professionals from Ba’kelalan should be aware of their responsibility to ensure continuous development and enjoy the benefits provided by the state government.
Balang observed that in Ba’kelalan, for the past 10 years since Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) took over from Barisan Nasional (BN), the constituency had lost many minor rural project (MRP) and rural transformation project (RTP) grants.
“At the end of the day, the rakyat is the one who loses out,” he said.
Balang also revealed that PDP Ba’kelalan has received membership applications from former PKR members.
“There are more coming in,” he said, refusing to divulge further.
Balang was met in Miri on Saturday night during a gathering with PDP members here.
