KUCHING: Dewi Tomi, 30, loves to bake cakes and to eat fine quality gourmet cakes. Therefore, it is no wonder that she was inspired to make delicious gourmet cakes for sale.

“My brand name used to be Dewi Choices but now I have changed it to Masano Baker.

“I started doing my business online in 2016. From then until now, I deliver cakes to customers via cash on delivery (COD).

“My cake delivery time is from 11 am until 3 pm, starting from the Kuching area and then to the Kota Samarahan area,” she told New Sarawak Tribune.

According to Dewi, she is originally from Kuching but now resides in Kota Samarahan. She has an assistant, namely, her own sister, Sofia Tomi.

“I always promote my cakes on the Facebook, Instagram platforms and now, I also promote my cakes through the Tiktok platform.

“The main challenge in selling cakes online is the lack of time to sleep and rest enough. But for sustenance, I am willing to make cakes until late at night.

“During COVID-19, there was limited time to make cake deliveries because the government tightened travel from district to district.

“This year, I have to increase the price of my cakes due to the increased prices of ingredients.”

Dewi added, “My most minimal item is a donut or a slice of cake which costs RM12. My most expensive product so far is ‘Kek Lapis Cadburry Bar’ (Super Premium) which costs RM350 per 8.5 inch. Every week, my menu is different.”

Her daily routine starts at 11 am and she will deliver all the orders from her customers until they run out. On holidays, she will make a new cake menu.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my mother, aunt, sister and my family for their encouragement and support. I also thank my father Haji Tomi Jaya, who helped me at the start of my business in 2016, by providing me with my capital.

“I hope one day I can open a ‘Cat Cafe Pastisserie’ shop because I am also a cat lover. Every food item I must have is sustenance for my cat.

“I urge all small traders out there not to give up easily. Don’t be jealous of other traders,” she said.
