KAPIT: The PBB Sarawak team clinched victory in the Men’s Open Bamboo Raft category at the 27th Baleh Kapit Raft Safari 2024 which ended at the Kapit Express Boat Terminal yesterday (July 14).
The win earned them a cash prize of RM6,000, along with a trophy and medals.
The Ministry of Digital secured second place in this category, receiving RM3,500 and medals.
Meanwhile, Kut Muara finished third, taking home RM2,500 and medals.
In the Women’s Open Bamboo Raft race, the Rh. Ukau Women’s Bureau emerged victorious, with APM KAPIT as the runner-up and Rando Kapit in third place.
The Decorated Raft category was led by SK Nanga Oyan, followed by Rando Kapit in second place and Song Cops A in third.
The Open Canoe Paddle race also garnered attention, with the Ministry of Digital being crowned the winner.
Landas Kapit secured second place, while PDRM Kapit finished third.
The prize presentation ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Works who is also the Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
The Power Boat final race saw a thrilling performance with Pasaka 25 dominating the 50HP category, surpassing Raja Kerbau Gemilang 110 in second place and String Ray 82 in third.
In the 30HP 3CYL category, Raja Kerbau 163 took first place, followed by Athena 64 in second place and Murphink 45 in third.
The 18HP final race was also exciting, with Alta Kuda Laut 46 taking first place, GB GROUP 18 in second, and Pasaka 11 in third.
Nearly 2,000 spectators gathered at the Kapit Express Boat Terminal to watch the two-day event.
This year’s competition attracted participants from throughout Sarawak, including teams from Brunei Darussalam.
Also present was Deputy Minister of Digital and Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, Baleh Assemblyman Nicholas Kudi Jantai and Kapit Resident Galong Luang.
