MUKAH: People in Sarawak are lucky because they can live their daily lives in harmony and prosperity despite the diversity of backgrounds, cultures and religions.
Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said in this digital era, there is no obstacle to continue to protect identity and heritage.
“Our society still takes care of these two things so that they are not swallowed up by time, for example the Melanau culture in Mukah.
“This year also marks the 60th anniversary of Sarawak’s independence from British colonialism, of course many sacrifices and previous history have been made to ensure that our generation feels the true meaning of independence.”
He said at the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) Mukah Division programme, here recently.
He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, he will continue to boost development efforts in determining a clear direction towards achieving the status of Sarawak as a prosperous and high income state by 2030 through the post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
Accordingly, an Amazing Race activity was organised, involving participants from Mara University of Technology (UiTM) and Mukah Polytechnic (PMU).
This activity was organised together with the Parliamentary Youth Organisation, Cahaya Alo Club, Balingian Branch Youth and the Youth Wing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Balingian.
At the same time, this programme aims to introduce UKAS to the community, history, identity and initiatives of the Sarawak government as well as introduce the culture, food and customs of the Melanau people.
