BINTULU: Several boxes containing ballot papers and other documents used during the 12th Sarawak state election for the Tanjong Batu constituency were disposed on March 28 as part of the process to ensure secrecy of the vote.

The securely sealed boxes containing the ballot papers and documents were taken from a syndicated room at Wisma Bintulu at 2:30 pm and brought to the Sepadok incinerator site.

Under the law, the ballot boxes must be securely sealed and kept for six months after the end of the polls count.

The sealed boxes were then disposed of in the presence of witnesses, including election candidates from various parties, their agents, and election department officials to ensure the secrecy of the vote.

Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming, opposition leader and Democratic Action Party (DAP) Bintulu secretary Chiew Chan Yew, and Sarawak State Election assistant Returning Officer for Tanjong Batu Mohamed Ansari Mohd Syed Ahmad were present during the disposal process.
