KUCHING: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) is thankful for the public input over the cleanliness of Bandar Riyal Market in Kota Samarahan.
“We will do the cleaning works by soonest,” assured MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos yesterday.
“MPKS admits the problems, especially the unclean fans, and will have its cleaning contractor do the necessary.
“We don’t want to shift the blame to anybody. We want to say sorry to the traders at Bandar Riyal wet market. We regret it,” he said in response to a statement by Leslie Ting, who is special assistant to Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii on the subject matter on Aug 15.
In his statement, Ting said the traders had to endure the uncomfortable environment to run their businesses.
According to Minos, MPKS actually has a full-time contractor to carry out market cleaning.
He said MPKS had fined its appointed contractor on two occasions for negligence and not following instructions.
“Most probably when the current contract expires, we will do a review to ensure our contractor is reliable,” he added.
