KUCHING: Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB) has contributed RM525,200 in zakat to aid the welfare and development of asnaf communities in Sarawak.
BPMB chief human resource officer Sainursalwa Sani said the donation is one of the largest zakat contributions made by the development bank.
“This zakat contribution reflects our commitment to uplifting asnaf communities in Sarawak. We trust it will make a meaningful impact on their welfare and development,” she said.
She said this after a press briefing following a courtesy visit to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.
The 2023 zakat contribution was allocated to the Sarawak Islamic Council and managed by Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS).
Sainursalwa said BPMB aims to increase its zakat contributions next year to expand support for asnaf development initiatives across Sarawak.
This initiative underscores BPMB’s dedication to fulfil its social and religious obligations, contributing towards a more equitable and sustainable future for Sarawak’s asnaf community.
Present during the courtesy call were TBS general manager Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie and deputy head of operations Mohammad Yusree Mohd Zain, BPMB’s chief of legal, governance, and corporate services Aidil Haznul Zulkifli, Group head of shariah management Noor Ain Mohd Amin, Group head of corporate banking and advisory Wee Yee Tat, and head of zakat management Ruslan Yohman.
