KUCHING: The Affin Islamic Bank Berhad has presented zakat contributions totalling RM100,000 to community support centres here.
 
From the total contribution, RM70,000 was presented to Pertubuhan Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PPDK) Sri Satok in addition to daily necessities and educational equipment, while Pertubuhan Kebajikan Pusat Aktiviti Warga Emas (PAWE) Sri Satok received RM30,000 along with daily necessities.

Affin Bank Berhad chairman Datuk Agil Natt pointed out that the contribution benefitted a total of 69 recipients, consisting of senior citizens and children from the two centres.
 
“This event is part of the group’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at fostering closer community engagement.
 
“It is hoped that the distribution of zakat and contributions will bring a little joy and happiness to the recipients,” he said.
 
He said this during the Affin Group & TVS Hari Raya gathering at Pusat Kebajikan Datuk Amar Hajah Juma’ani (PKDAHJ) which also saw the attendance of (PKDAHJ) patron Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang today.
 
Meanwhile, in a statement, Affin Islamic Bank Berhad chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Paduka Syed Mashafuddin Syed Badarudin said Affin Islamic Bank Berhad has distributed zakat and donations amounting to RM3.8 million in 2023, which were distributed to approximately 84,500 beneficiaries and target groups.
 
The zakat contribution to identified institutions and charitable organisations, he said, is part of Affin Group’s ongoing commitment to actively engage and provide aid to communities especially to those in need.
 
“Aside from the diligent distribution of zakat contributions and the active implementation of CSR initiatives, Affin Group is committed towards ‘Responsible Banking With Impact’ in line with our Affin Accelerate 2028 (AX28) Strategic Plan, that is geared towards driving environmental sustainability, creating societal benefits, and enhancing corporate governance.
 
“This strategic pillar emphasises the integration of ethical principles and integrity in every target and action we carry out.
 
“In this regard, we will continuously enhance and improve every plan to ensure that it delivers value and a positive impact on society and the environment as intended,” he was quoted as saying.
 
The event was also held in collaboration with Sarawak Media Group (SMG), as part of TVS’ CSR initiative, namely TVS Prihatin.
 
SMG deputy executive chairman and chief executive officer, Kushairi Abang, in a statement, said the programme carries the main objective to get closer to the community especially the needy ones.
 
“Besides Affin Group, we have rolled out collaboration with other corporate bodies and government agencies.
 
“Hence, there will be more CSR programmes in the future, and we are also looking forward to continuing such efforts with the Affin Group,” he added.
 
Also present during the ceremony were Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Mayor Hilmy Othman, SMG chairperson Datuk Norhyati Mohd Ismail, the New Sarawak Tribune’s and Suara Sarawak’s CEO Datuk Dr. Jeniri Amir, as well as other distinguished guests.
