KUCHING: Ba Kelalan assemblyman Baru Bian is worried about the flood situation in Lawas.
“I am alarmed and extremely concerned with the flood situation in Lawas,” he said in a statement yesterday.
“I was notified that many villages and areas, including where my Lawas town house is situated in Siang Siang village, have been inundated by up to two metres of water.”
The Federal Works Minister further added that residents of Kg Seberang, Kg Gelapas, Perumahan Gelapas, Kg Masjid Trusan, Kg Lungan, Kg Tengah Trusan, Kg Lintang and Kg Sundar, which are all located near the Sabah-Sarawak border, had been badly affected.
“I have been informed that to date, 93 victims have been evacuated to the Trusan Community Hall in the outskirts of Lawas town.
“I convey my gratitude and appreciation to the State Disaster Relief Management Committee, which has been prompt in assisting the affected residents, and carrying out the standard operating procedures for such a crisis and is monitoring the situation closely,” he said.
Baru informed that his Ba Kelalan Service Centre staff were also on high alert and constantly assisting affected residents.
“They are delivering aid and essential items as well as working closely with the authorities to ensure that no one is adversely affected by this monsoon season disaster.
“Rest assured, we will do our best to assist in any way possible. God bless Lawas and her people,” he added.
