KUCHING: Selangor’s basketball teams have dominated the SUKMA basketball event, securing gold in both the men’s and women’s 5×5 categories.
From the beginning, Selangor set their sights on gold. They won all six of their matches with unmatched strategy, teamwork, and offence.
The women’s team was equally impressive, triumphing in all six of their matches.
In the men’s final against Johor, Selangor edged out a narrow win, 73-70. Johor’s attempt to tie the game with a last-second three-pointer fell short, ultimately securing Selangor’s victory.
Johor took home silver medals in both the men’s and women’s categories. Melaka’s men’s team earned the bronze, while Negeri Sembilan’s women’s team secured the bronze in their category.
Unfortunately, Sarawak’s teams did not make it to the semi-finals. The men’s team managed to win only one of six matches, narrowly defeating Sabah 70-69 on Monday (Aug 19).
The women’s team fared slightly better, securing two victories during the preliminary rounds, beating Melaka 65-58 on Friday (Aug 16) and overcoming Sabah 64-57 on Wednesday (Aug 21).
The 3×3 basketball event will take place from Aug 22 to 23. Sarawak’s men’s team will compete against Federal Territories, Selangor, Sabah, and Melaka.
Meanwhile, the women’s team will face off against Federal Territories, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, and Melaka.
