KUCHING: The Batu Kitang Night Market can be a platform for small traders to market their products.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said, it also gives the community in the local area an opportunity to generate income during the two-week period of the night market.

“The night market is held to help increase the daily income of those involved in businesses, for which it has been encouraging.

“I am confident that the businesses conducted at the night market will profit the operators,” he said at the closing ceremony of the Batu Kitang Night Market at Lee Ling Height here last night.

Lo, who is also the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman, added that the initiative of the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Batu Kitang branch to hold the event also coincides with the current needs of the traders.

According to him, the traders were badly affected during the Covid-19 pandemic and with the night market, it will certainly help in increasing their  incomes again.

“The same goes for the upcoming month of Ramadan for Muslims. I am sure that the bazaar will also be a good platform for traders.

“I would like to call on the media and related parties to help spread the word about the existence of the night market or bazaar that will be held to attract the interest of various races to visit the market and bazaar,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Saberkas Batu Kitang Unit Batu 3 chairman Albert Lee said that the night market would not only provide an opportunity to generate income but that of a gathering and fellowship place.

“In fact, it can gather people to come together regardless, not only to help businesses, but also to strengthen friendships with each other,” he stressed.

For the record, around 70 stalls involving the sale of food, drinks, games are being held at the night market from Mar 3 to 19.
