BAU: Tasik Biru’s new Bau Bicentennial Bridge is officially opened to the public today in conjunction with Bau’s 200th anniversary.
Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said the bridge is a new landmark in Bau, bringing back nostalgic the old red concrete bridge that used to be there.
“When I met with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, I requested additional allocation and he approved the allocation of RM1 million through the Rural Transformation Project to build the bridge.
“This bridge’s design concept is inspired from Waihi, New Zealand. It is a former gold mining town that has turned into a tourist spot, so we took inspirations from the bridge there and implement it here,” he said.
Jinep said this during an interview with the press after officiating at the new Bau Bicentennial Bridge, today.
He said he was thankful that the bridge has finally completed and opened to the public, adding that they can visit the Miner’s Walk trail which takes them to a temple and the Tasik Biru pontoon crossing.
“It is only a one-kilometre walk, but it is cool because the trees and greeneries provides cover from the sun.
“I encourage everyone to come and explore, because it showcases beautiful nature and it is also good for health,” he added.
The construction of the bridge began in 2019 but progress was slowed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There is no fee charged for the public because it is built by the government for the people.
“However, the bridge can only accommodate around 20 people because of weight limits, so my advice is to be careful and do not go all at once,” he said.
At the same time, Jinep also revealed that there are plans to build an observation platform dubbed Tanju Ninyau for visitors to enjoy the view.
