BAU: A group of five locals were rescued from Mount Bronang Waterfall after their attempt to trek down the area was hampered by heavy rain and poor visibility.

The group, consisting of three men and two women, were stranded as they were unable to leave the area due to nightfall.

One of them contacted the authorities and requested assistance around 6.50pm yesterday (Oct 16).

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the rescue operation was also assisted by three villagers, who helped to show the way to the waterfall.

It was reported that the rescue team had to hike up some 5km to reach the group’s location.

At around 10.10pm, the group were found safe and later brought down from the waterfall area to the starting point.

The group were then reunited with their families and the operation wrapped up at 12.10am.
