BAU: The allocation of RM19 million by the state government has been issued for the construction of three projects located in Bau district through the Public Works Department (PWD).
The projects are Musi-Buso Bridge located at Kampung Buso, new Bau District Office Complex and Sebuku-Tondong Bridge in Tondong.
Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep officiated at the handing over of sites for the projects by Public Works Department (PWD) to the successful contractors here yesterday.
The RM3.88 million Musi-Bau Bridge in Kpg Buso and the new RM4.6 new Bau district office complex were awarded to Akobest Sdn Bhd while the RM10.6 million Sebuku-Tondong Bridge was awarded to Bong Jee Nyan Construction Sdn Bhd.
After visiting all the three project sites, Jinep also attended a briefing at Balai Raya, Tondong Bazaar on several other projects for implementation in Bau district this year.
“We want the projects to be completed as soon as possible without any interference from the local parties,” he said during the briefing.
According to Jinep, he has spoken to the contractors on the possibility of reducing the construction period.
“They have agreed to it, so we can expect the projects to be completed by the end of 2020,” he added.
According to Jinep, the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg himself was expected to officiate at the opening of all three projects at the end of 2020.
“All these projects, which are being implemented under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) are people-centric projects, meaning the local community will benefit directly from them.
“There was never a dream to build a bridge for Buso and Tondong, but these two projects were the first among others that were approved by the Chief Minister. The next important project is the new Bau District Office Complex to replace the existing one which is already 88 years old,” he added.
He said the bridges were crucial for the people in the area, not only to facilitate connectivity but also to help boost economic activities.
“With the support of the state government, we want to have a new three-storey district office complex which symbolises the culture of the locals.
He said the office complex is sited on a hilltop, thus will have a commanding view of Bau.
