PADAWAN: A new town is set to be established in the Padawan area with multiple infrastructures for the convenience of the rural people as well as for the socioeconomic development in the future.

Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, when asked about this, said the project was underway.

“The area is called the Bayur Rural Growth Centre, which was delayed, now being revived with more development coming in.

“Here in this area, there will be other infrastructures such as commercial and residential lots, and other facilities that can cater to the people.

“Apart from that, we will have the hawker centre here, which is currently being built. So, with this going on, it will make it easier for the people to do business.”

Dr Jerip, who is the Transport Deputy Minister, said this during a press conference after presenting MRP cheques to 64 representatives at the Padawan Sub-District Office today.

In addition, he also mentioned Mambong as a coffee plantation area, adding that there were villages that already took part in planting coffee.

“The villagers responded well to this initiative and we even have a coffee farming cluster.

“We are looking, within three to five years, a lot of coffee will be produced. It is a matter of time, so it is still an ongoing progress at the moment.

“We have some land ready to be used to plant coffee but we will have to wait for the Land and Survey Department to complete their survey work.”

Dr Jerip hoped to target at least 300 hectares of land for coffee, based on the available land.

“Our coffee is in the market right now, it’s called Katup Coffee. I can say that it is of high standard and quality, but right now production is just not enough.”

In another development, 70 per cent of the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) had been implemented in the Mambong constituency.

“There are projects that are being delayed and some are sick projects which have been halted for a while.

“Two of the sick projects are in Kampung Sapit, which are the construction of the village’s church building and the road.”
