KUCHING: The public have been urged to remain disciplined and resilient in adhering to standard operating procedure (SOP) in order to continue breaking the transmission chain of Covid-19.

“We have been enduring life in the new normal since March this year and it is starting to cause a phenomenon called Covid fatigue among the people. In fact, this is not only happening in Malaysia but also in other parts of the world,” said Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

“This Covid fatigue is a dangerous thing because it will cause us to not care about the SOP implemented to break the transmission of Covid-19. When the SOP is taken lightly, this consequently will make the situation worse.”

She said this at the press conference after the Sarawak Social Development Council (MPS) members meeting on Wednesday (Oct 28) at Baitul Makmur building II.

In light of the recent implementation of enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at Kampung Haji Baki, Fatimah said that the public should be even more vigilant.

“The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) recently issued a reminder for all of us. The EMCO is being implemented in one area but if we do not take it as a lesson, there are chances of it becoming more widespread.

“There is still no vaccine for Covid-19 so we must remember that the fight is not over yet. So we must be disciplined and remind each other to adhere to the SOP in the pursuit of breaking the transmission.”
