MIRI: Mirians have been advised to be extra cautious this Hari Raya.
“It is a difficult Raya but it can still be a meaningful one. Your family gatherings will be on a small scale but that will mean more close interactions,” said Mayor Adam Yii in his Hari Raya message yesterday.
He added society at large was still battling the Covid-19 even though in Sarawak, the pandemic seemed to have subsided.
“We are still worried about a second wave of infections,” he added.
Yii advised those who were unable to return home due to travel restrictions to connect with their parents and families online via videos on social media or at least call home.
“We must take this opportunity to help ease the sufferings and burdens of those badly hit by loss of jobs and income, continue to be charitable and help those around us who are in need,” he added.
Although visiting was not allowed, people could donate food to these people while maintaining social distancing, Yii added.
He said Miri City Council would not be organising any official Raya gatherings.
“We must abide by the government’s directive and help cut off the infection chain. We will do our part to stop the Covid 19 pandemic in Miri and the state at large,” he added.
