KUCHING: Innovation in design is the key to standing out from the crowd in many cases, and buildings are no exception to the rule.
When comparing buildings in Kuching, it may be noted that many of them may share a common façade and layout, particularly commercial shoplots and residential units.
“Developers have to be innovative in their design – they should incorporate new ideas and contemporary concepts into their projects,” said Jonathan Chai Voon Tok, secretary-general of the Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) and secretary general of Kuching Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCGCCI).
“This would help to attract the youngsters,” he said.
Asked about the market of commercial properties nowadays, Chai commented that most developers have slowed down in the development of such properties, especially shophouses.
“However, some projects have been started some years ago. The developers are forced to carry on with the projects, despite the deteriorating economy.
“They are legally bound to deliver the possession of those properties to the purchasers within the agreed deadline, even if not all the units are taken up,” he said.
Chai concluded by noting that no new projects have been launched as of late, due to the less promising market outlook.
