JOHOR BAHRU: The agencies under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) must be prepared to face the many challenges from the fifth generation (5G) mobile technology, including the spread of fake news.

KKMM’s Deputy Secretary-General (Policy) Shakib Ahmad Shakir said media practitioners are also urged to apply the 5G technology to access information and curb the spread of fake news.

“5G or 4G, fake news can still happen, but with 5G, it is faster and at the same time, it will make our work faster. So our role is to tackle this challenge,” he said.

Shakib was speaking to reporters after a gathering of KKMM agency staff at the Sultan Iskandar Information and Broadcasting Auditorium here yesterday.

Earlier, in his speech, Shakib reminded all staff of KKMM departments and agencies, including Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), the Malaysian National News Agency  (Bernama), the Malaysian Information Department (JAPEN) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to play their roles in disseminating valid and accurate information to the public in the country.
