SIBU: The Civil Defence Force (APM) is urged to always be ready to face any eventuality, especially natural disasters.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong stressed that disaster could happen at any time.
“We admit that disasters can happen at any time, but what is most important is that we must always be ready to deploy our forces in the event of a disaster. I am satisfied with APM preparedness here,” he said.
He was met by reporters during his working visit to the Sibu APM operation control centre over the weekend.
During the visit, Ugak was briefed on the APM’s preparedness in facing natural disasters by Sibu APM officer Major (PA) Wan Mohd Jabir Wan Mohd Badrudin.
Wan Mohd Jabir said his team has several existing assets and was ready to cooperate with other security teams in assisting during floods.
“We are ready to be deployed at any time,” he assured.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), has forecasted heavy rain in Sarawak and Sabah during the current monsoon season.
It says there is high risk of flooding if heavy rain occurs simultaneously with high tides and storms.
