KUCHING: The youths are urged to be prepared and move forward in embracing rapid development which revolves around the existence of new technologies from time to time.
Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) president Datuk Abang Abdul Karim Tun Abang Openg said the state government today is trying to transform the socio-economic landscape of Sarawak through digitalisation because the future revolves around technology.
He further said, “The state government also takes youth development seriously by providing the necessary infrastructure to prepare them, although education is a matter under the federal government.
“That is why the state government has taken part in enhancing our education by allocating funds such as grants and scholarships through Yayasan Sarawak.”
Elaborating on the importance of youth development in the mix, Abang Abdul Karim explained, “Today, you are led by somebody but in the near future, you will take over the leadership from the older people. Thus, we want to train and prepare you for the future.
“Be tech savvy or we will be left behind,” he said when speaking at the closing ceremony of Asia Leadership Youth Conference 2019 (Personal Leadership: 21st Century Skills to Navigate Through Changing Times) held in Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here yesterday.
A total of 243 participants registered for this year’s conference compared to 180 last year.
The conference acted as a platform for participants to learn leadership, entrepreneurial and 21st century core skills from scholars who came from Harvard, Tufts Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and other world-leading universities.
Through a mixture of plenary sessions and interactive workshops, participants had the opportunity to learn effective communication skills to engage, motivate and mobilise peers towards common goals.
Also present were Centre of Asia Leadership (CAL) president Samuel Kim, Sunway College Kuching chief executive officer (CEO) Joseph Lim and Sin Chew Daily senior manager Charles Lee.
