SIBU: Temenggong Stanley Geramong Bandar has urged longhouse residents to exercise vigilance and caution to prevent incidents such as fire.

He emphasised the importance of ensuring that kitchen fire are switched off after cooking or when leaving rooms.

Additionally, he advised residents to ensure that the electrical wiring in their houses is in good condition and that electrical connections have been approved by the electricity provider.

“This is crucial because improper connections or excessive use of electricity on one socket can lead to short circuits and fires,” he said in statement recently.

Last Sunday (Feb 18), Stanley, along with Pemanca Paing Tawi, led the Sibu Iban community leaders to distribute food aid to fire victims at Rumah Rebah, Nanga Tutus, Batang Igan after receiving information about the incident.

During the 8.56 am incident, thirty-one people from seven families residing at Rumah Rebah, Nanga Tutus were rendered homeless after a fire destroyed their longhouse.
