KUCHING: A beach cleaning programme was held at Trombol Beach to raise awareness on maintaining cleanliness and stop the disposal of rubbish along the beach.

According to Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim at the programme on yesterday (Oct 15), a beach clean-up is a better way to preserve the environment by removing trash and other debris that could pollute the water.

He said it also aims to ensure the public increases their responsibility towards the environment.

“As in the actions taken to protect the soil fertility, human life, clean air, safe water, and sanitation, where healthy food is available to all, cities are livable, economies are climate-resilient and focused on health and well-being,” he said.

The community service project to clean up the Trombol Beach organised by MPP involved various agencies such as Unimas, Politeknik Kuching, JKKK Kampung Trombol, Trombol Beach Resort, Junior Chamber International Padawan (JCI), GVE Strategic Waste Sdn. Bhd. and Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn.Bhd.

“In the year 2021 MPP spent more than RM 125,000 to clear illegal dump sites.

“On the other hand, MPP saved 33,748.70kg of recycle waste from being disposed into the landfill including plastic, aluminum, and paper in 2021,” he said.

Ahmad said tourism is one of the most important sources of income for a country’s development, hence the beauty of a beach is a valuable asset to the tourism industry.
