KUCHING: The Sarawak Drum Festival (FGS) 2024 is a vital platform for youth to connect with their cultural roots, said Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“Preserving our cultural heritage is crucial, especially among the younger generation,” he said during the festival on Friday night (Nov 1).

“Sarawak’s rich ethnic diversity has given rise to a myriad of unique customs and traditions. The Sarawak Malay drums, for instance, showcase the harmonious blend of different ethnic backgrounds and musical instruments.”

Abdul Karim added that the festival, held at Kuching Waterfront from Nov 1 to 3, is a celebration of this cultural heritage.

“It’s a platform to elevate and share these traditions with a wider audience,” he said.

The event, organised by the National Department of Culture and Arts (JKKN) Sarawak in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP), is held in conjunction with the Sarawak Regatta Kuching Waterfront Festival 2024.
