KUCHING: The Sarawak government wants to win the war against Covid-19 through vaccination.
To this end, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas stressed that every Sarawakian aged 18 and above needed to be vaccinated.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the Covid-19 immunisation programme was being carried out statewide, with 279 vaccination centres having been set up.
“Up to May 12 this year, 1.3 million people have registered for vaccination, but this is only 54.4 per cent of those eligible.
“So, I appeal to all those yet to register to do so soonest, either through the MySejahtera app (cellphone) or got to the nearest district office or health clinic,” he said in his Gawai Dayak message on Monday (May 31).
To speed up the vaccination programme, he explained that the Sarawak government had roped in 23 general practitioners (GPs) and five private hospitals.
“We plan to add 16 more GPs and two private hospitals. For those in the interior, we will mobilise outreach teams to longhouses, villages and other settlements.
“All must make full use of these opportunities.”
Despite the raging war against Covid-19, he reassured that the Sarawak government, helmed by Gabungan Parti Sarawak, would continue with its socioeconomic development agenda.
“The Sarawak government has set aside RM9.832 billion in the 2021 Sarawak Budget for the many development projects now being implemented or to be implemented.”
